For three years Vinnie- worked at the DLR. And every morning when biking to work, he saw the hills of the Siebengebirge. No wonder that, when thinking about a location for our first own cache, we were especially attracted by these hills.

Kurz bevor Vinnie-s Probezeit uns bis November 2001 in Köln festsetzen würde, buchten wir fast über Nacht noch schnell eine Last-Minute-Reise. Die führte uns auf die Kanaren nach La Palma. Natürlich gehörten zu dem rasch zusammengepackten Reisegepäck auch die 'Zutaten' für einen Cache... La Palma entpuppte sich als ein wunderbares Reiseziel, dass jede Menge tolle (und teilweise auch abenteuerliche) Wanderungen für uns bereithielt. Der Cache wurde natürlich auf der längsten und schönsten Wanderroute der Insel versteckt: Auf der Ruta de los Vulcanes.

Just bevor Vinnie-'s probation would keep us fixed at Cologne until November 2001 we booked a last-minute-trip which brought us to La Palma, Canary Islands. We had packed in a hurry but of course our baggage contained all things neccesary for planting a cache... La Palma turned out to be ideal for vacation and recreation and provided us with a lot of great - and sometimes adventurous - walking tours. Of course we placed our cache at the longest and most beautiful tour of the island: At the Ruta de los Vulcanes.
Old Drusus

Dieser Cache ist nach einer nahegelegenen Sehenswürdigkeit benannt. Er ist sozusagen Vinnie-s 'Heimatcache', denn er liegt in einem Ausflugsgebiet nahe Emmerich, wo Vinnie- aufgewachsen ist. Ursprünglich schwebte uns als Name auch 'Escape from Flatland' vor, zum einen, weil die Gegend am Niederrhein so flach ist und der Cache auf einer der ganz wenigen Erhebungen liegt. Zum anderen als Referenz an den Roman "Flächenland" von Edwin A. Abbott. Der Drusus-Cache ist eigentlich eine Art Schnitzeljagd, bei der mehrere Stellen gefunden werden müssen, die jeweils Informationen zur eigentlichen Cache-Position beitragen.
ACHTUNG: Dieser Cache wurde geräubert, so dass wir eine neue Stelle für ihn finden mussten. Er liegt nun also nicht mehr an der originalen Stelle - bitte beachtet die Angaben auf der Cacheseite!

This cache is named after an object of interest nearby. It's Vinnie-'s 'Homecache' and placed in a recreational area next to Emmerich, where Vinnie- was born. Originally we planned to name the cache 'Escape from Flatland', on the on hand because the whole 'Niederrhein'-Area is really short on hills, on the other hand as a reference to Edwin A. Abbott's Book "Flatland". Actually the Drusus-Cache is kind of a 'hare and hounds' as there are a couple of locations to be visited. On each location there is some information hidden, which - put together - leads to the coordinates of the real cache location.
