Gerade hatte Vinnie- sich den Garmin gekauft und wir waren mal wieder zu Besuch in Berlin. Was lag da näher, als die Kinder einzusammeln und einen richtigen 'Familienausflug' zu machen? Dass 'unser Erster' dann auch noch 'Germany First' sein würde, war sozusagen das i-Tüpfelchen.

We went to Berlin on one of our regular visits just some days after Vinnie- had purchased his Garmin. So it seemed to be a wonderful idea to take my dad and the children out for a nice day trip with the family. That our first Cache would be 'Germany First' should be the icing on the cake.

Der kleine Ausflug bei Berlin hat uns Blut lecken lassen, ab sofort waren wir verrückt nach Geocachen. Kaum zurück in Köln nahmen wir uns die nächstgelegenen Caches vor. Den Auftakt machte dabei ein Ausflug nach Altenberg.

Our little trip near Berlin was the trigger: since then we were crazy for geocaching. Back to Cologne we went for the caches around, starting with a nice trip to Altenberg.

Meiner Schwester Maja fiel in Berlin die Decke auf den Kopf und wir holten sie kurzerhand fürs Wochenende nach Köln. Klar, dass wir die Gelegenheit nutzten, um im 
Siebengebirge selbst einen Cache zu legen. Bei einem Zwischenstopp zum Eis schlecken auf der Rückfahrt nahe Bonn meinte Vinnie- dann: "Nur 50 km entfernt ist ein weiterer toller Cache"...
When my little sister Maja visited us in Cologne, we planted our first own cache, Siebengebirge. Afterwards Vinnie- suggested to go for another cache, "only 50 km away" as he said...
Double Dutch

Wir verbrachten wieder mal ein paar Tage in Vinnie-s Heimatstadt Emmerich - was lag da näher, als das prima Wetter für eine Cache-Tour in das benachbarte Holland zu nutzen?! Also erklärten wir die Idee des Geocachings den Eltern und los ging es. Die Zielgegend war dank der guten Ortskenntnisse von Vinnie-s Vater schnell gefunden, aber dann gingen die Schwierigkeiten los: Erst standen wir grübelnd vor der falsche Landkarte (Aufgabe 1) und schließlich mussten wir einige Umwege in Kauf nahmen, da große Teile des Waldes wegen MKS (Maul- & Klauenseuche) gesperrt waren. Am Ende fanden wir den Cache aber doch - und zwar direkt vor der Nase von anderen Geocachern, die bereits länger als wir suchten ;-)
We were visiting Vinnie-'s hometown Emmerich for a few days. And perfect weather for a trip to the netherlands to find some caches. We explained the principles of geocaching to Vinie-'s parents and off we went. Thanks to excellent local knowledge by Vinie-'s father we soon arrived at the area. But then we had some difficulties to reach the cache. First we couldn't solve Task #1 for a while, as we stood at a wrong map. Then we had to make some detours due to cattle desease (MKS). Finally we found the cache: directly in sight of some other geocachers, who were searching the same location - and even longer than us ;-)

A nice sunny day - so we took our parents out with us ;-) We had some trouble finding the date on the map as our Garmin took us to the wrong map! But then the puzzle was solved and only two difficulties left: We had to take some detours because of closed ways (MKS). Arriving near the cache we met 4 figures (3 persons & 1 dog ;-) who were obviously on the same 'hunt'. Though without the photo or the 'detailed map', WE found it first!!! ;-))) We took the high-tec lightpen but don't remember, what we left (bell, magic candles, for sure: 'sheath'). Of course afterwards we directly went to get some Pannekoeken. They were GOOD! nici- & Vinnie-
First Dutch

Obwohl Geocaching Vinie-s Vater wohl nicht völlig begeistern konnte, beschlossen wir, auf dem Rückweg von Double Dutch auch First Dutch noch 'mitzunehmen'. Von der Landschaft waren wir überwältigt - wo kommen hier die ganzen weißen Dünen her?! Den Cache auszugraben war echte Arbeit, zumal an der richtigen Stelle alle Spuren sorgsam getilgt waren ;-)
Vinnie-'s father seemed not that fond of geocaching - anyway, we could persue him to go for this cache too. Walking through the woods we were stunned to suddenly stand on white dunes - where did all this sand come from? It was hard work to dig for this cache, exspecially since the right location war thoroughly masqueraded.

We went for the Double Dutch and having fun there decided to go for this one too. Having no detailed roadmap we had some difficulty to get near the place, but after some detours we found a good place to start from. Nice short little walk through the woods but then: WOW! We were absolutely stunned by the landscape. Where do all these dunes come from??? Approaching the cache-site we were not at all confident to find the stash. But the description is really acurate! The digging was quite a job, but what joy to find the cache!!! We took: candy and one of the stickers and left: a man-eating shark and a small wooden bookmark. nici- and Vinnie- (PS: We're looking forward to seeing our photo ;-)

We had the most beautiful weather, so we planned a whole weekend with geocaching. The Rhine View Stash was our first target.
